The Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy are founded on ancient Mayan healing practices. The therapeutic session involves external non- invasive touch that gently repositions internal organs that have shifted position and could possibly be restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve pulses and chi.
Maya Abdominal massage is beneficial during preconception, prenatal, and postpartum times. It can be particularly helpful in increasing fertility. I often incorporate Arvigo techniques into the prenatal care visit while we listen to the baby and measure the uterus. Many of my clients appreciate and enjoy the extra attention and massage on their bellies.
Prenatal and postpartum benefits include strengthening and toning of the uterus. Specifically during the prenatal period, the massage can release restrictions in the ligaments that align the uterus in the pelvis; this can lead to easier childbirth. During the early postpartum days, the massage, which parents can be taught to do themselves, aides in restoring pelvic tone after delivery. I have trained both in the US and in Belize with Rosita Arvigo.
